This project in Old Town Alexandria was completed while I worked at Cunningham + Quill Architects. After several attempts to get the design passed through the local citizens group with a monolithic design of contemporary styling, we took a more contextual approach. The design breaks up a block long building with various masses and facades to look like different buildings constructed over time. By creating courtyards, we provided each unit with at least two sun exposures with views and/or access to the green space. Mixed use 'town houses' cap the building as it transitions to a main commercial thoroughfare.
