I was invited to present my paper, "Harmonious Beauty, The Aesthetics of Humane Architecture" at the International Society of Philosophy in Architecture's 3rd International Conference whose focus was on the Human in Architecture. The conference was held in Bamberg, Germany between July 20-23, 2016. The purpose of my paper was to advocate re-instating beauty as a guiding principle of architecture in the service of mankind. In the first half I attempt to show how beauty was understood by architects through a brief survey of historical sources. The second half is dedicated to what modern science says regarding out aesthetic sense. What I found is that the two closely align and furthermore that beautiful architecture is humane in that it promotes emotional well-being and the greater good.
